Meeta Pandit is a leading popular vocalist of Hindustani classical music. She has enthralled audiences both in India and in more than 25 countries. She is a top grade artist on All India Radio. Her rendering of Sufi, thumri, devotional, and light genres are equally soulful. Meeta belongs to the Gwalior Gharana, is sixth in the unbroken lineage, and the first woman in the family to take up music professionally. She is the granddaughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt. Krishnarao Shankar Pandit, the doyen of Northern Indian Classical Music in the 20th Century, and daughter of Pt. Laxman Krishnarao Pandit. She was invited in 2003 by the Government of France as Artist in Residence to be based in France for three months and collaborated with French Artists. A film on her, titled- "Meeta-Linking a Tradition with Today" has been made by The Public Service Broadcasting Trust and Prasar Bharati in 2005.
